Mount Kosciuszko is located in the Snowy Mountains, in the Great Dividing Range in New South Wales. It lies 2228 metres above sea level, making it the highest mountain in Australia.
It was first scaled by Count Pawel Edmund Strzelecki in 1840, making the year 2010 exactly 170 years since the discovery of the Mountain.
Mount Kosciuszko has been named in honour of the Polish national hero General Tadeusz Kosciuszko, especially because of the perceived resemblance of the mountain to the Kosciuszko Mound in Krakow, Poland. |
